Meet Shane Coney

I was born and raised in Noble County as the eldest of three children in a hardworking family. After graduating from Central Noble in 1988, I enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. In 1990, I married my high school sweetheart, Tamara. Following my tour in the Gulf War, I made the decision not to renew my military contract. Wanting to raise my family in Noble County, I returned to Albion after receiving an honorable discharge. Shortly after, Tamara and I welcomed our first son in 1992.

I spent six years working at Challenge Door in Ligonier before beginning my law enforcement career with the Noble County Sheriff’s Department in 1999. During this time, my family grew to include two more sons, born in 1993 and 1997. Tamara is a family nurse practitioner at Dayspring Christian Healthcare, and we attend the Church of Christ in Columbia City. My hobbies revolve around all things outdoors including hunting, fishing, gardening, and anything else that will keep me outside.

In addition to my law enforcement career, I have been a volunteer firefighter with the Albion Fire Department since 2000, further deepening my commitment to public service. Over my 25 years in law enforcement, I have held a variety of roles that have provided me with extensive and diverse experience. In 1999 I started as a confinement officer in the jail, I quickly advanced to sergeant, overseeing staff and operations for two years before transitioning to a patrol merit deputy role in 2004. In 2015, I was promoted to Captain and took on the position of Noble County Jail Commander. This role later extended to Kosciusko County in 2019, where I served under Sheriff Kyle Dukes for four years. Upon the completion of this term, I returned in 2023 to Noble County and currently serve as a patrol merit Deputy Sheriff.

Throughout my career, I have worked under five different sheriffs, learning valuable lessons from both their successes and challenges. I have logged hundreds of hours in continuing education and leadership classes. These experiences have shaped my leadership style and vision, ultimately inspiring me to campaign for the position of sheriff. With a strong foundation in public service and a genuine love for this county, I am ready to bring my dedication and perspective to serve Noble County as its next sheriff.
