Action Plan: Reclaiming Pride in the Sheriff's Department

I am committed to being a hands-on Sheriff who leads by example. There is no task too small or insignificant for me to undertake, and I will never assign responsibilities I wouldn’t be willing to take on myself. My vision for this role goes far beyond sitting behind a desk—I aim to build a department that is professional, productive, and accessible to the community we serve.

My goal is to make the Noble County Sheriff’s Department a workplace family. I will actively support and motivate the team members across all roles. I recognize the importance of listening to employees and valuing their dedication.

  • When I began at Noble County, the sheriff’s department had an excellent reputation where positions were highly sought after. Now, we are not the top choice for people seeking a career in law enforcement. I want to restore pride in this department and make it a leading option for career seekers.  I will focus on improving staff retention, as frequent hiring and training of new personnel is both costly and time-consuming. By fostering long-term commitment among staff, it will ensure a safer workplace, enhance job satisfaction, and build a cohesive department.

  • The demands of law enforcement often expose officers to challenging and distressing situations, which can have serious impacts on their mental health. Recognizing this, I will be active and present at such moments to provide support and guidance to the officers involved. The role of sheriff is far from a standard 8-to-4 job confined to weekdays; true leadership in this position requires a commitment to being available whenever the community and department need it most.

  • I am committed to enhancing collaboration among local police, fire departments, and emergency response agencies. We will be a stronger community if we train and work together.

  • I am dedicated to reviving transparency and maintaining open communication with the public. To achieve this, I plan to organize regular town halls, open forums, and community outreach programs that provide opportunities to address concerns and gather feedback from Noble County residents. These events will also serve as a platform to share crime statistics and educate the public on important law enforcement topics, ultimately strengthening trust and rebuilding ties with the community. I will also celebrate the good work being done on our social media page.

  • I will enhance training and education, which is a crucial and urgent need. Inadequate preparation can lead to safety concerns and significant risks. A lack of knowledge in the positions of deputy sheriff or confinement officer could ultimately cost lives.

  • I will enhance Noble County’s K-9 program for their numerous benefits. K-9 Units can act as a strong deterrent to criminal activity. Knowing that a trained dog is on patrol can discourage potential offenders. K-9 officers are highly effective in tracking suspects, apprehending fleeing criminals and detecting illegal drugs. Their speed and agility make them valuable assets in capture operations. â€‹K-9 officers provide an additional layer of protection for human officers during high-risk situations. They can be deployed to neutralize threats, reducing the risk of harm to law enforcement officers.
